Operator-in-Residence Program

The Guideboat Operator-in-Residence Program (“OIR”) was created to bridge the gap for mid-career operators who have deep industry experience and leadership abilities with an entrepreneurial spirit.  By partnering with Guideboat, the operator doesn’t have to take the excessive risk of entrepreneurship and completely forego a salary, invest life savings or sign onerous loan docs that make selling your kidneys sound more appealing.  As part of the OIR program we serve as river guides, a resource in the search, active participants in the diligence and closing process, capital provider and ultimately as a partner in the acquired company that you run on a day-to-day basis.

As investors and operators ourselves, we’ve been on the journey and created the OIR program to both address the optimal path for an operator as well as seize the opportunity of the significant number of high quality businesses being sold by retiring founders without a succession plan.  From our experience we’ve recognized the highest correlative factor to success in our companies is the quality of leadership, and the OIR program gives us the opportunity to hand pick our leaders and build a long-term relationship for the journey ahead.
